Video Blogging Challenge – Day #23 | Know Your Audience from Bonnie Gean
Recently, I read a book on “How to Shoot Video That Doesn’t Suck” by Steve Stockman. It’s not the greatest book to read for producing online video, but I did find one gem hidden within the pages.
Video is a strategy that only works if you are creating the “right” video for your audience. A video shooting of your brother’s wedding is going to appeal to family and friends, but I highly doubt your Internet marketing fans would want to watch it.
This is why it is so important to know your audience. Who are the people that are more likely to benefit from watching your videos?
The Importance of Knowing Your Audience
I want to talk about your future videos. The challenge will end soon so it is important that I guide you on what to do next. I am giving you an exercise that I want you to complete so you can create better videos for your audience.
Up to this point, my main goal was to help you get over the fear of being on camera. I wanted you to get comfortable talking to your audience – on screen, before I asked you to do anything else.
Some would argue that I should have taught you about “knowing your audience” on the first day of the challenge, but that was not the goal behind this 30-day event.
However, now that we only have a few days left to the challenge, I really need you to start thinking about your audience – who they are, what they need and how you can serve them with video.
What You Need to Do Next
I created a worksheet for you to download. This worksheet will help you understand your core audience (and even the competition) to decipher what type of videos you should create after the challenge ends.
- Download the Know Your Audience Worksheet.
You will describe your core audience, learn their interests and know what they expect from you. Likewise, I ask you to scout the competition so you are able to produce better videos based on what they are not providing to their customers.
Make sure you fill out the worksheet so you can create videos that benefit your audience. If you take the time to do this exercise, your videos will be more apt to offer what your audience wants and needs from you.
Do you know, without a doubt, who makes up your core audience? Leave a comment below and let me know!
