If so, you know all too well what it feels like to play the “waiting game” with kids. Time that could be spent doing other countless chores a mom must do to keep harmony and balance in the home.
If it seems like you’re the mom who spends more time waiting in the SUV than in the home, multitasking may be the answer for you! Here are 10 handy tips to help you and other moms turn the waiting game into constructive management of time:
Take a book and read. If you like to read, but never seem to have enough time to curl up with a good book, here’s your chance. Stash your favorite paperback into the glove compartment and pull it out when you’re left waiting longer than you originally anticipated.
Plan meals. Grab some index cards and label them for each day of the week along with the name of the meal to serve. For example: Monday – Meatloaf Supreme. Underneath the meal heading, add a list of condiments you’ll need to buy from the grocery store to complete the menu.
Listen to audio. If you like to listen to subliminal programming or recently bought an online audio course, crank on the DVD player and use this time to listen and learn.
Plot a vacation. Jot down ideas like which sights to see, how long you’ll stay or what activities the family will do together. Will you arrive by boat, plane, train or car? Write down approximate cost and how much spending money is required for the family retreat.
Write in a journal. No reason to wait till you get home. Sit back and relax, kick off your shoes, roll down the window and write to your heart’s content.
Compose a love letter. It doesn’t matter if you’re married for 10+ years. Take this opportunity to write a love letter to the man of your dreams. Tell your husband how much you adore his antics and how blessed you feel by being his wife.
Make important calls. Do you need to schedule a dentist or doctor appointment? Perhaps you need to check in with a family member still at home? Whip out the cell phone and make your calls. You’re already sitting down, might as well be talking too!
Take a nap. As moms who cater to their children, we need all the rest we can get. Close your eyes and take a much needed breather. You earned it.
Clean the car. We all gather junk in our vehicles. It could be air fresheners, cellophane wrappers, crumbled cigarette packages, stale gum or empty Styrofoam cups. Unless you are squeaky clean, something is littering your car. Here’s your chance to scoop up the dirt.
Schedule your pampering time. Moms deserve to be indulged, but don’t always take the time to escape to a spa. This needs to change. Schedule your pampering engagement now!
As a mom, the waiting game is unavoidable. Whether you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, the car wash, the bank drive-in window or simply waiting for the kids – time never stands still. I hope these 10 handy tips help you make the most of it!
