How to Schedule a Post on Facebook

Today is going to be a special treat, especially if you didn’t know this little trick existed on Facebook. I created a video to help you along, but if you don’t like video there’s also text below.

The Facebook Scheduler

I have recently learned from a subscriber that you can schedule posts from your Facebook fan page. Unfortunately, it does not work from a Facebook group page, but maybe it will in the future.

You can schedule posts to go out “automatically” at a predetermined date and time, from your status update box, and you can literally set up a week’s worth of marketing messages in one sitting!

Step #1 – Go to your Facebook fan page and click the “Status” link above the message box.

Step #2 – Add your text message into the box.

Step #3 – Click the “clock” icon on the bottom left of the status box.

Step #4 – Choose the “date” and “time” you want your message to post to the timeline.

If all you want to do is add a text message, click the “Schedule” button to complete your scheduled post.

If you would like to add a photo or video, along with the text message, continue to the next step.

Step #5 – Add a photo or video to your message. Click the “Photo/Video” line on the status box.

Step #6 – Click “Upload Photos/Video”

Step #7 – Click the “Choose File” button at the bottom of your status box.

Locate the picture you want to attach to your message (from your computer) and double-click it to add it to your message.

Step #8 – Click the “Post” button to schedule your message.

Facebook should display a message to let your know your post has been scheduled. The message reveals the date and time, but if either should be incorrect, you can click the “View Activity Log” button to make any necessary changes.

Oh, wanted to tell you, I love the little sparkly intro in your videos. Would you mind sharing who did that for you? I’d love to have one made for some upcoming videos I’m working on.

  5. PS I’ve been catching up on your posts here, Bonnie, and thought I should let you know that I’m writing from my other site today, in case you didn’t recognize me. I usually write from my Orange Kitty PLR site, but I’m taking that down to make a completely new site, since several people thought, because of the name, that I only wrote cat plr, which I don’t.

  7. Thanks, Bonnie!

I haven’t used this feature previously, but it will be great to have it in my bag of tricks. I will use it when I have more time on the weekends, but want the post to come out on a weekday. Great post!

  9. I couldn’t live without this! And did you know that you can edit the text of an image post by going to your activity log where it’s scheduled, clicking on the image and then clicking ‘edit’. Maybe Facebook will let us edit other post types some day.

  10. I’m glad they made it easier. It was so annoying to have to use the pull-down boxes for each number.

  12. I also use hootsuite to plan updates. It works for fb groups too.

    • I know several people who use Hootsuite too. I venture to say this is why FB came out with the scheduler.

It’s no secret that Facebook doesn’t like it when people use 3rd-party services to post to FB pages. I never understood why, but it makes perfect sense on why they would make “automated” posting a reality for users.

The more time you spend using the FB scheduler, the more opportunity there is for Facebook to show you ads. :)
