In this tutorial, I’m using Aweber to show you how to send a broadcast message to your Twitter account.
If you don’t care for video, I’ve included the text instructions below and a downloadable PDF with step by step pictures for the visual learners.

How to Send a Broadcast Message to Twitter from Bonnie Gean
Step 1: Preparing Your Aweber Mailing List
To get started, log in to your Aweber account and choose the mailing list you want to work with.
Under the My Lists tab, choose List Settings and then Personalize Your List. Scroll down the page and find the section labeled, “Social Media / Sharing” and click the “Connect with Twitter” button.
If you’re already logged into your Twitter account, you should see a blue “Authorize app” button. Click it. If you’re not logged into Twitter, you’ll be required to login.
Once you authorize the Aweber app, you’ll return to Aweber. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Save Settings” button to save your changes.
Step 2: Sending a Broadcast
To send a broadcast message, click the “Messages” tab on the top of the page and then choose “Broadcast” from the dropdown menu. This will take you to the pending broadcasts window.
Note: Here you’ll need to either create a new broadcast or choose one that’s already created and open the message.
If you’re creating a new broadcast message, add the title under the Subject heading. Enter the rest of your message into the “Plain Text Message” box.
At the bottom of the broadcast message, you’ll need to select a schedule to send, which segment of the list to send to, and whether you want to exclude/include any other lists.
Under the Social Media / Sharing section, check the box to enable sharing. This will provide you with choices of which social media sites you wish to send the broadcast announcement to. Click the “Twitter” button and choose the Twitter account.
The box will show the subject line of your broadcast along with the Aweber URL short code that’s sent to your Twitter followers after you queue the message.
Click the “Save Message” button to save your broadcast. Always remember to test your message before sending it out to your list. This last minute check will ensure your spelling is correct and nothing is missing from the broadcast message.
Once you’re certain the message is ready to send, click the “Queue” button from the pending broadcasts selection window. After the broadcast is sent, Aweber will automatically post the broadcast message to your Twitter account.

How cool was that! Great video, thanks Bonnie. Love the step by step..since I’m a visual learner.
Got that squeeze page up yet, Debra?
So very cool to know I am already doing this successfully. Thanks, Wendy
Good girl. 🙂
Awesome, Bonnie, as always. I’m home now and trying to catch up with email and back posts on the challenge. I do have an outline of sorts (subject to change) to follow and since I hate making lists, this is a major accomplishment for me. 🙂 Great post. I did follow the links to Mary Kathan’s blog and she is doing a great job.
Welcome home, Ruth! How was your vacation? I hope you got much needed rest because playing catch up to the challenge is going to take tons of energy! LOL
I remember seeing someone do this a long time ago and I had to dig around to figure out how. It’s a nice way to let more people read your emails and I’ve had a few people subscribe once they click over. I always share them to Twitter unless the email contains a special freebie that’s only meant for people on my list. (I don’t want to be a liar and have the freebie available for anyone if I tell them it’s a list only freebie.)
Like you… I only share the public information on Twitter but when the newsletter contains links for subscribers only, I don’t broadcast them to Twitter or Facebook. YES you can braodcast to your Fan Page, too!
I am going to have to check out Aweber first of all and then this broadcasting idea. Thanks for a great tutorial. I love the new things learned each day!!!
You’re welcome Angela. I’m glad you like the information. 🙂
Bonnie, as an AWeber user I really appreciate this blog post and the way you gave us several options to digest the information. As a writer I do best with the written word, so thanks for including the info as text and for the PDF to refer to later. Great information!
I always like to give several different options to consume my tutorials/blog posts. I think it’s important that you cater to as many learning styles as you can.
Of course, I don’t have an audio on the page, but if people really wanted that, I would add it too. 🙂
Thanks Bonnie…I was curious about this…now I know how to do this, thanks to you! You’re the best! 🙂
You’re welcome girlfriend! Glad it helped you! 🙂
Yes, it did…thanks again.
You’re welcome!
I’m not using Aweber but I am in the process of figuring out which email service I want to use. I will definitely keep this info in mind. Your blog posts are always so helpful and informative!
I’m glad you think my blog posts are helpful and informative. I try Michelle. I really do. 🙂
Good luck with choosing your email service!
