How to Embed: Step by Step
I realize some may not like to watch a video so for you guys and gals the below section maps out all the steps you need to take to embed a YouTube video into a blog post – with pictures!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask them below.
STEP 1:
Go to the YouTube video you want to embed.
STEP 2:
Click the share button (under the video). This will open up a new drop down section for more choices.

STEP 3:
Click the embed button shown. This will open up a new drop down section for more choices.

STEP 4:
Choose the video dimensions you want (to highlight it). This will update the code inside the embed box with the proper dimensions for your video.
Please note, I selected 640 x 360 because I know this will fit into my blog page. However, your page might be thinner or wider so choose the best size to fit your blog.

STEP 5:
Go to the embed code box under the video and copy all the code shown.

Last Step:
Go to your blog page and paste the code into the HTML area.

Don’t worry if you don’t get it on the first try. Sometimes I need to do a task more than once before getting it right. It’s a natural part of the learning process.

Hi again.
It seems to have worked!
Thanks again for the tutorial.
Best wishes,
Ann
Glad to hear it, Ann! 🙂
Yes, it seems to be working fine. Thanks again.
What I don’t like is the page layout. Is there any way I can change it?
On your page, you have to the post with others underneath it and the post says …..continue reading (or something similar.) where you can click on to go on reading.
I put some pictures in as I thought it would break up the posts a bit.
Also, I took your advice about putting pictures with the Amazon products but they take up so much room. I have downloaded them as an Amazon associate which means I just highlight the text and it is all done. Any help to get them smaller?
Sorry for all these questions but I am still not happy with how my blog looks. Still a bit amateur….
Best wishes,
Ann
You could always pick a different WP theme if you aren’t happy with the layout of the current theme you have installed, Ann.
When you install Amazon links (a link is quite different from the boxes you’re placing on your pages)… it’s better if you put three boxes in a row rather than one on each line.
Of course, this means you’ll need to learn a little bit of CSS to make it display the way you want.
You might try the Squid tool… which could help in getting those Amazon boxes to load better on your page.

Good morning!
As always, thanks so much for your advice and help.
I am looking into using a new theme. My question is, can I just change themes mid-blog? Or can you only select a theme before you set up the blog?
Actually reading these questions, it seems that the answer should obviously be the first one, as people sell new themes all the time, but – just in case! LOL
Yeah, I am going to have to look into how to do that with the Amazon links as they take up far too much of the page. I looked at the Squidoo tool but couldn’t find anything to help there.
Best wishes,
Ann
You can change to a new theme anytime you want. Just be sure to back up your blog before you do. That way if you have any problems, you’ve got a back up. 🙂
The Squidoo Tool helps you build Amazon links like the ones listed on this page:

All nice and tidy looking. 🙂
Hi. Yes, that is the way I want it to look.
I tried Squidoo tools but couldn’t find how to do it but will give it another go over the weekend.
You don’t just happen to have a tutorial about it, do you?
🙂
Ann
I don’t have one available, but I could definitely make one. 🙂
Morning! Bright and sunny now after some heavy rainfall. Not a typical June so far.
Well that would be really cool if you could.
Have a good weekend.
Ann
Sorry Ann, I’ve been really busy with the 90-day challenge. I’ll get to this video as soon as I can fit it into the schedule.
Hi. Thanks for the video.
I am having the same problems as others. I have embedded it – my button says “text” not HTML but I think that doesn’t matter. So when I preview the post I just have a black space, no tab or anything to view it.
I have tried with the refresh button – that is F5 right? – but nothing happens.
Shall I try again?
Best wishes,
Ann
I assume, with your last post, that this issue was resolved?
Hi Bonnie
I have a problem when I try to embed videos. I have followed your instructions and I get this pale orange square in my “visual” box and the video never shows up. I’ve entered the code in the text/HTML area. When I do a preview nothing appears for where the video should be. I don’t have the problem when I put the code for my vlogs into my posts, just when I’m trying to embed somebody else’s videos. Hope you can help me as I’m trying to embed a video for today’s blog! 🙂
Yes of course I’ve left it till the last minute!
Where is the video on YouTube you’re trying to embed and which blog of yours are you trying to place the code?
One of the things I’ve noticed with YouTube lately is when I paste the iFrame code into the page and then preview it – sometimes the video doesn’t show up in the preview. Normally, hitting refresh on the page works to show the video.
Have you refreshed the preview page after you hit the preview button?
Yippee! That worked 🙂 You can check out my success!
Thanks again 🙂
You’re so welcome. Glad I could help! 🙂
I will go read now!
Ok I have watched this again. So I put the html code bit into the main text of the body of the blog? Not into the html text part? Let me try again.
Thanks
Chris.
Christine,
You have two tabs on your WordPress blog. One is called “Visual” and the other is called “HTML.”
You want to make sure the HTML tab is active before you paste the iFrame code into the text box.
BTW: I went to your website and checked and your video was working! I wouldn’t change a thing! 🙂
