In this video, I show you how to create pages for a custom WordPress menu that has sub-pages underneath it. I’ve included written instructions below.

Watch the Video:

How to Add Pages to a WordPress Menu from Bonnie Gean

Introduction

Previously, I showed you how to create a custom WordPress menu by following my How to Create a Menu in WordPress tutorial. So today, I want to show you how to create a menu with subpages.

Step 1 – Login to WordPress

The first thing you need to do is login to the WordPress dashboard for your blog. Look for Appearances > Menu and click the menu tab to access your custom menu settings.

Step 2 – Add Your Pages

To add pages to your menu setup, find the Pages box that lists all the pages for your WordPress blog. You’ll find it on the left sidebar of the menu area.
Select the pages you want by clicking each box to add a check mark. Once you’ve chosen them all, click the Add to Menu button. You should see the ticked pages showing in your menu navigation window.
The last thing we need to do is move the pages into position to make them subpages of a main page. (e.g. The FTC Disclosure page is a subpage, while the Legal page is considered the main page.)

Step 3 – Slide Your Pages

Using your mouse, grab a page and slide it to the right placing it directly under the main page. (e.g. I am sliding my Free Downloads page under the Resources page.)
As you’re sliding the page, you’ll notice a dashed box showing on the left side of your page button. This shows you where the page will sit once you release the mouse key.
Continue sliding all your pages until they are in the correct position and then click the Save Menu button. You MUST save your menu otherwise the changes won’t show in the browser window!

Step 4 – Check Your Browser

Refresh or reload your browser window and you should see the changes appear. Make sure your subpages are showing in the drop down window.
That’s all there is to it! You’ve done it; pat yourself on the back and congratulations!

Now it’s your turn! How often do you try something new with your WordPress blog? Leave a comment below and let me know!

This menu system is a part of WordPress, not any specific theme. You should be able to create any custom menu you want.

According to Pagelines, anything is possible with their drag and drop theme, though it will require extensive CSS work. Did you visit the forums and ask them Mary? You get an entire year of support dear. Take advantage of it!
I have decided that I might buy the updated version too – this will allow me to tinker with it and be able to answer future questions that relate to the new theme!

OK – I guess I was confused. I thought that was all WordPress stuff – did not realize I can ask Pagelines about it.

Creating bottom menus IS something you can do in WordPress regardless of the them you have. Though, with your Pagelnes theme, you have many more options available to you.
In fact, a CSS drop down box should be possible, considering I used to hand code them in the past. I would ask in the Pagelines forum to see if someone already did it and ask them to share the code with you!

That makes things a lot easier Bonnie!
Here is a question….. How do I get the Legal Page to just show at the bottom footer menu and not at the top menu?
    Thanks!

Create a new custom menu and call it footer-nav and then add your legal page to it. This will work if you use the simple navigation that Pagelines offers.
