Today is day twenty-two of the video blogging challenge, and today I talk about how disgusted I am on the amount of educational videos I’ve recorded. Or should I say, the lack of them?
There’s a video to watch and text if you prefer to read.
Watch the Video:
Day 22 – Video Blogging Challenge from Bonnie Gean
YouTube Links
Today is about how many YouTube videos I have created and why I’m upset that I’ve only done 209. Now you might be sitting there thinking, “Wow, that’s a lot of videos!” Yes, it is, but when you decipher what those videos consist of, it’s nothing to brag about to mom.
Let me explain…
I’ve done three video blogging challenges; in fact, I finished the first two and recorded 60 videos. Right now, I am offering another video blogging challenge, and we are on day number twenty-two.
I created 30 videos for Tiffany Lambert’s video blogging challenge and an additional 30 videos from the first video blogging challenge I held in March of this year.
In addition, the current video blogging challenge is on the twenty-second day, which brings the total VBC videos to a total of 82.
Subtract the 123 videos from the 209 sitting inside my YouTube account and we come to a total of 86 “how to” videos.
I am disappointed that I only have 86 instructional videos to share with you, and that’s just not right in my book. I’ve decided to fix this little discrepancy in my YouTube account and get busy creating more “how to” videos for you!
My Recommendation
I also want to recommend that you go back through your current videos and add a “call to action” or a clickable subscribe link to the end of all your videos!
It’s much easier to do this if you just started creating videos during my latest challenge, but if your YouTube account has more than 100 videos, this step will take some time. I would suggest doing several videos every day until they’re all fixed!
Since I have 209 videos beckoning my name, I need to get busy. If you’re in the same boat, let me suggest that you get started adding links to the tail end of your videos asking viewers to subscribe to your YouTube channel!
How many videos do you currently have available for your peeps? Leave a comment below and let me know!
Thanks for reading,
– Bonnie

Oh goodness Bonnie. I can’t imagine even creating half that many. I love all of your videos even the ones that aren’t how to style. You’re doing great and now that you’re on this path, I can’t wait to see even more.
How are you doing, Misty? Since I started designing graphics again, I’ve lost touch with so many peeps. 🙁
I don’t want to veer off into outer space so let’s get connected! 🙂
Tell me where you’ve been hiding!
SO glad you like the videos. 🙂 Thanks!
Great post. Not enough video either only and they all lack call to action. I have to get producing as well.
Glad I stirred the pot then, Heather. 🙂 I hope you don’t have as many videos to update as I do!
Once you place the call to action inside your videos, I wouldn’t hesitate to share them on your social media accounts. 🙂
Hi Bonnie,
Hmm. I have made 2 cooking videos which are on my youtube channel and we have made some animated videos for kids as well as a promotional video for my app. My husband has a channel with history documentaries that he creates. Each of these types of videos take a lot of time to create so I think you should be pleased with what you have done so far. Of course, it is an excellent goal to try to be even more consistent and then you will reach your goal. Keep at it.
Thank you for all the informative videos you’ve provided so far 🙂
Yes, it takes time to do a video, but I can’t help but want to educate a wider audience by offering more tutorials. 🙂
I’ve just acquired training to learn how to do different types of videos, and I cannot wait to get my hands in dirty! LOL
Thanks for visiting, Barbara!
Just checked my stats. Been on YT for 4 years and have 25 videos up – 16 of those are because of doing the Video Challenge!
I need to get more professional in the production values with those snappy intros and outros. Little by little I’ve been making improvements to my channel since starting the Challenge. Goes to show what you focus on gets done!
That’s quite an accomplishment, Mel! Getting 16 videos done through the 30-day challenge is awesome for your first time in one of my video challenges. 🙂
Don’t fret over the intros and outros; something tells me you’ll get them done in due time. I didn’t have them at first, but little by little I added them over time. You are a go-getter. I know you’ll get to them eventually!
WOW BONNIE! 209????!! That’s incredible. WOW… I really need to brainstorm some quick video platforms for SKTV. I only have a few… LOL DANG.. how awesome is this though. What has been the benefit?
What are the benefits of producing video? More listings in Google for one, since they own YouTube and show the video in the Google search results. Increased sales as a byproduct of doing video product reviews and heightened followers. The more people that watch my videos, the more they get to know me. They subscribe to the channel and to my newsletter and eventually buy my products.
Can’t knock those benefits, can you? 🙂
Vlogging is a brave thing, in my opinion. You have to be sure your hair is done right, your make up on, and lighting is a must. That’s why I stick to simple blogging. I can do that in my jammies if I want. I applaud you for doing something I could never have the courage to do.
Four days after you posted this response, I was in a truck accident. Granted, after the accident, I didn’t dream about being in front of the camera, but it had nothing to do with putting on makeup or fixing my hair.
First, I don’t put on makeup while at home. It’s not an essential part of being presentable, in my opinion. I want people to see the real me and that’s not possible hiding behind face powder and lipstick. LOL
Secondly, messed hair means I’m being productive. If every hair was in place, my family would worry something was wrong with me. ROFL
But I certainly understand how you feel. Maybe one day it won’t matter as much to you, and you can have some fun in front of the camera for all the world to see. 🙂
Just counted 25 videos on my channel since 2010. Pretty paltry effort really! Kudos to you though Bonnie because 16 of those were a consequence of doing this challenge!
It’s a learning process, and there are lots of smarts to learn about youtube.
Nothing is better than getting more practice. Just think, when you started doing video — how did you feel? Were you unsure of yourself? Did you second-guess what you were doing? Now look at you – giving instructions to other newbie videographers!
That proves that anybody can start something for the first time and learn it well enough to teach others. Just think, in another year, YOU could be the person running a video blogging challenge instead of me! 🙂
Congrats Bonnie! I know how long it takes to make videos so this is definitely something very commendable! I used to have a You Tube channel myself a few years ago so this is inspiring me to start again.
I hope you take up making videos again, Ashley. It’s such a great way to build a community!
It made me smile when I read how disappointed you are with the amount of videos you have made. You have done a great job.
I know that you will be able to push forward and increase in your How To’s without any problem. Love watching your vids 🙂
Thanks, Victoria! I appreciate that you’re honest with me about my videos.
It took some doing getting the 86 up there. Now if I could push myself a bit more, I should be able to double the amount. Right? 🙂
I am glad to see that you’re back to creating videos too. I hope you sit in front of the screen now and then to show your pretty face too!
Bonnie I think you’re being too hard on yourself. The fact that you have that many videos is an accomplishment and something to be proud of. What matters is that you’re using this marketing strategy and seeing results from it.
I have almost 100 videos on You Tube and they vary in content. I still can’t believe I have that many. I swear, if dieting were anything like internet marketing, I’d be skinny as hell, because there really is too much on my plate and now I’ve got to add more peas to the plate by going back and adding the subscribe annotation. ROFL
I’ll have to add that to the project sheet. Perhaps I can add it to 5 a day until they’re all done.
That’s so true, Cynthia. I could probably say the same thing. If recording video was a pound lost every time I made one – I’d be one heck of a good looking chick. ROFL
I know you can do it. It may take time to add the subscribe links, but you will eventually get it all done.
I love watching videos more than I do reading blog posts, I’ve watched every single video you’ve done for this current challenge so far. I like the way you do your videos there is another blogger who does really short ones and in each one he promotes his books which mean I’m not going to share them, seems like they just pump them out to promote their own stuff not to build a relationship.
I don’t think 80 is a bad number it would be unrealistic to think you could keep the consistency going for a whole year.
The truth is, if I hired the work out to others (outsourcing), I could realistically get a video out every day of the week. To do this, it would entail me sitting down to record the video, but hand the editing and translation parts over to someone else.
While they are working on the first video, I could be recording the second and third, and so on. That would give me the time to record more than one a week, if someone else was doing the other part of the work and uploading it to YouTube for me.
The only reason why I haven’t do it so far, is because I am not ready to do a recording every day of the week. 🙂 Maybe sometime in the future that will change, but not for now.
I’m happy to hear that you like watching my videos. I don’t think everybody likes video, so you’re an exception to the rule. 🙂
It’s not bad to promote something in a video, but if that’s the only reason why you’re creating video – you probably won’t get the results you expect.
Subscribe links! That’s what all my videos need. Luckily, I’m only have a handful of videos, so there’s not many that I need to add the links to. Thanks for this video reminding me of that. Now just to figure out how to do it…I’m sure it’s not too hard 🙂 Thanks, Bonnie.
The tutorial on this page will help you place subscribe links inside your videos, Alexandria.
http://www.bonniegean.com/how-to-create-clickable-subscribe-links-for-your-youtube-videos/
You should be able to follow the tutorial and have your clickable subscribe links in place, in no time at all. 🙂
This is great Bonnie! My God! doing videos takes a lot of time (besides putting yourself in front of the camera and sharing it with the world), you also add infos and layers on your videos + writing full articles! you should be proud of yourself!
Thanks, Amaia. I am proud of myself for getting started with video creation, but I tend to be hard on myself too.
I really want to help you and others in my community, so the more how-to videos I can produce, the better I’ll feel. 🙂
The key is consistency just like you mentioned. If you create a video or post on a regular and consistent basis, before you know it you will have a lot of them!
Thanks for the idea of going back and adding the call to action in current videos!
I have been very consistent so far, with blogging and video creation, but I worry that I will get complacent unless I keep on top of things.
That’s why I’m doing two blogging challenges this month instead of one. 🙂
I always want to push myself outside of the comfort zone because we don’t grow unless we stretch our mind and bodies.
Thanks for visiting and commenting, Paul. Good luck with running the UBC; how do you like it so far?
Video is going to be a big part of how I promote my upcoming membership. I’ve been outlining tutorial and tip videos related to using PLR to start. I also want to do more videos about blogging in general.
One big thing I plan to do is use video to introduce people to PLR in a way that’s easier to understand. I know a lot of new bloggers don’t know what it is so it would be a lot easier to explain it as “blog content starter kits” or something along those lines.
It’s going to be a fun project. That’s going to be my main focus once the site is set up.
The launch is on the 1st so I want everything set up by the 22nd so I can start creating more promotional materials. 🙂
Sounds like a wonderful plan, Amanda. What is your new membership site about or is this still a secret? 🙂
Nope, I’m trying to be as public about it as possible so the launch happens. I’ve already lined up some affiliates, worked out some deals with other PLR providers to get more content for members, and stuff like that.
It’ll be a weight loss PLR membership. Each month members will get a report, articles, product reviews, recipes, and social media images. I’m also picking up resell rights PLR to add as bonuses so people get a nice selection along with the monthly content. It’s all diet, weight loss, and nutrition based content.
It’s the biggest project I’ve ever taken on but I feel like my marketing plan is very solid so even if it doesn’t take off to start it’ll grow with time.
One thing I’m really excited about is that I’ve got a handful of PLR providers giving me free samples of their products to give to members. I get free bonuses for people and they get to have a link to their store inside my membership (so proven buyers see it). I’m going to be reaching out to more PLR providers in the next two weeks to see if more people are interested.
I seem to remember being a PLR provider. ROFL If I can add the infographics to my PLR store, I might be able to share some of them with you as bonuses.
Additionally, I would make the infographics inside of PowerPoint so that people don’t need Gimp or Photoshop to edit or update them with their information.
Just let me know. Send me email if you want to discuss it further.
Ya, I’ll send you an email in the morning, sitting down to finish up work for some clients. 🙂 There aren’t many people offering PLR infographics so it’ll be awesome to have them included.
Alright, Amanda!
I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, and I need to visit a client in her office, so if I don’t respond right away – you know why!
I will get back to you as soon as I return to my office chair! 🙂
86 videos are a LOT of videos! You are doing great! I’ve had an active YouTube channel for 5 years with lots of viral videos, and I have just over 100 videos in 5 years. And I feel like I’ve been filming non-stop!
I hear you, girlfriend! 100 videos in five years isn’t such a bad number as long as it applies to someone else. ROFL
I tend to be an over-achiever (some would call it a perfectionist), but I just like to keep plugging along so I can make a difference for the people who look to me for solutions.
I need to create a channel just for Alex Shares. My first channel was actually screen casts of how to set up and use WordPress sites.
But, they quickly became out of date thanks to how quickly wp changes.
I would just put the how-to videos on my main channel. When I started the reclaimingmyhealth.com website, I created a new YouTube channel for that too.
Oh my… that reminds me that my health site needs some love too! Grr!
I actually have two channels, but I need to figure out how to separate into a couple more. Know of any educational videos that show how?
Didn’t Cynthia share how to add a mass subscribe link to all your videos yesterday? (or someone in the group)
The person who shared how to do that was Mel Day, but she showed you how to add it to the upper right-hand corner of the screen. I use that area for “branding” and not for subscribers. 🙂
I added my subscribe link to the very end of the video that TELLS them to CLICK HERE to subscribe. My logo doesn’t tell them to take that action! 🙂
You can create as many YouTube channels as GMAIL accounts. So if you want another YouTube channel for a new website, simply create a gmail account for it and you can create another YouTube channel. 🙂
Yup, it was me. I showed 3 ways: using the watermark feature (top right); using the Annotate feature, and using the Description box. Of course you can also do a call out on your video as a closing frame.
You’re a natural born teacher, Mel! I say keep up the good work and before you know it, the video count will double! 🙂
I am sad to say that I don’t have a Youtube channel . It is on my radar for next year to look in to. Thanks for the idea about the link at the end!
Is there a reason why you waited so long to do video, Penny?
