I wanted to create a video for you because it’s an important day, but I am getting over a cold where I was close to having it turn into pneumonia, so the voice isn’t up to par.
You can watch the video below or simply read the text underneath, whichever is more to your liking.

Day 1 – Video Blogging Challenge from Bonnie Gean
Video Blogging Challenge
For starters, what does the challenge entail?
It means you will sit down and prepare a video, much like the one that I did above this blog post. If you’re not comfortable sitting in front of a video screen, you can choose to do a screen capture video instead.
I wouldn’t mind a PowerPoint presentation, an interview or a show and tell video. We accept them all as long as you’re using a video camera or screen capture program to produce it! So you see, it’s very easy to participate – even if you don’t want to show your face!
Do you love the outdoors? Take your video camera outside and shoot some footage of the nearby lake in your area where you go boating or swimming in the summer. Heck, get your dog into the act by taking him to the park and video record his romping session!
The challenge starts today (September 8) and will continue until October 17. Hopefully, by the end of the video blogging challenge, you will have 30 videos that you can share with an online audience.
Leave the Excuses at the Door
I don’t want to hear you complain that you’re not personable or sexy enough to make a video. Just take one look at me and you’ll see that I’m no Miss America either, but I don’t let that stop me from connecting with people on a personal level.
You don’t need to be pretty, spunky or smart – you just need to be willing to talk to people. You’re already doing it offline when you go to the bank, grocery store and church!
I’ve talked to total strangers at an amusement park while waiting to get on a ride too! The only difference between that and doing it online is a video camera. But… if you’re too nervous to record your face, don’t do it!
Choose a different form of video to enjoy the challenge. You can easily do a screen capture video to talk about your favorite business tool. Explain why you use it, how it works and why someone might want to try it out too.
Consider showing people how to change a theme or add a slideshow to a blog. Just do something besides making excuses! Doing business online requires you to build relationships, and nothing is better to make this a reality than creating a video!
With that said, I look forward to meeting, watching and hearing you through the video blogging challenge. If it’s your first video blogging challenge, I have homework for you.
Homework
Record a 30-second video, sitting in your favorite chair. Simply say HI to me, tell me your name and wave at the camera! That’s it!
Will you be participating in the 30-day video blogging challenge? Leave a comment below and let me know!

You know, I actually turned on my camera and started to say hello and discovered my camera picture on my laptop looks like a heat signature and is all blurred. I don’t know what happened to it. The good thing though is that you’ve inspired me to give vlogging a try again (not every day, maybe once a week) and this weekend I’ll see if I can figure out the video camera my mom gave me recently. 🙂 Good luck everyone!
ONE video is a start, girlfriend. I know once you get the hang of it (and it starts to pay off in terms of a growing community) you will keep at it and find time to fit more video into your schedule!
I just had an idea based on this to use as a follow up to the video I made today.
Where are your videos, Jenn? I would love to view them! Do you have a YouTube channel or do you just place them on your blog?
Good luck with the 30 day video challenge. I’d love to participate (and I’m not shy, I used to work on Breakfast Television) but it’s not a good time for me. I look forward to watching your videos.
Thanks, Salma for the well-wishing. I’m sure there’s an opportunity in your schedule just waiting for a video to take place. I’ll be patient until you find it. 🙂
Hi Bonnie,
So glad to be seeing and hearing you again!! I’ve really missed you!
I don’t know if it’ll be an everyday thing, but my goal is to create a video a day.
Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather. I hope you’re feeling better soon. Take care!
Cindy
Even if I don’t say so, Cynthia. I miss you when you aren’t coming around to the blog too. Perhaps this is one reason why I do the video blogging challenges? I know you’ll show up! Haha
Hi Bonnie. Hope you’re on the mend. Looking forward to posting on the video challenge when I can. Where do we post the homework?
Thanks Mel. I want to feel better too. 🙂
You can post your homework on my blog, under the day for the challenge and then go over to Google+ community and post it there for G+ comments.http://www.bonniegean.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-form

Sorry to hear that you’ve been unwell, Bonnie, but you show great leadership getting in front of the camera on day one despite it all.
Good luck with your challenge. I look forward to seeing more of your videos over the next 6 weeks.
Thanks, Alexandria! The first day of the challenge was… well, challenging! I am so glad that I got the Internet back and I was able to move forward!
That’s one thing we bloggers need to consider: some days there will be obstacles to overcome. Do the best you can, post when you can and accept whatever falls into place! 🙂
Ooh so tempting. I do need to get better and more consistent at video so this could be good. Might have to look how I can schedule it in. Glad you’re on the mend, Bonnie. Great invite and instructions.
I am so glad you decided to take me up on the challenge, Mel! You will have fun! 🙂
Hi Bonnie Gean!
Wow, you do sound like you’re getting over being sick. I appreciate your encouragement to get back into video blogging! Love it.
Looking forward to it. Will be making my first video tomorrow for this challenge. Appreciate it!
Talk soon,
– Carol
Yes, it has been a terrible winter for me, Carol. I was burning the candles at both ends and it caught up to me. 🙂
I hope I am on the mend now. LOL
You are so welcome for the encouragement. I love helping you!
Bonnie – sorry to hear that you have been unwell. Hope you feel better soon.
Good luck with the video challenge – will be supporting everyone from the sidelines 🙂
Thanks Victoria! I’m on the mend. It may not be happening fast enough for me, but it’s coming along.
Cheer loudly from the sidelines so I know you’re there. 🙂
