When you decided to start an Internet business, did you stop to think what would happen if it became super successful? I don’t believe you presumed such a thing because I know I didn’t.
Did you consider how you would manage it if it did? If you’re anything like me, you’ll say nope to that question, too!
I would venture to say most of us were dwelling on the ideas of making money and didn’t stop to figure in the fact that one day, we might actually BE successful, which equates to more people demanding more of your time.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining! I just didn’t expect to wake up this morning and find 52 blog comments waiting for my approval, and before you ask, I checked to make certain they weren’t spam. 🙂
What Would You Do?
Think about it, how much would your daily routine change if this happened to you? You certainly cannot leave those comments sitting there!
People took the time to leave them, the least we can do is respond. And yes, before you ask, I do reply to each and every comment left on my blog. Anything less is rude.
You certainly wouldn’t ignore company if they came calling to your house, so why would you approve comments on your blog without leaving (at the very least) a “thank you for visiting” comment?
Trust me, I’ve seen this done to comments I’ve left on another person’s blog, and it irks me when they don’t respond back. I thought they were blogging for the same reason I was – to build relationships!
So naturally, a comment left warrants a reply!
Learn from My Surprise
So let my morning surprise be a lesson to you. You must prepare for the day when your Internet business takes off and starts booming with comments, visits, and additional questions through email.
It’s only natural that your workload will increase as your Internet business gains momentum and becomes more popular than you ever imagined! Are you up to handling the task?
Are you willing to commit to your visitors and customers if they demand more of your time? Can you handle the additional situations that call for diplomacy or a quick retort before things get out of hand?
I admit my current schedule doesn’t cut the mustard, does yours? Do you happen to have a contingency plan in place? I think you’re going to need one.
I am super pleased that I have 52 comments, but I also know I’m not prepared for this kind of surge in traffic with my existing schedule, so I definitely need to rethink a few things.
Did this post make you rethink your current schedule? Leave a comment below and let me know!
